Shop Our 4D Number Plates
Our 4D number plates use raised acrylic characters to create greater depth than traditional number plates. The style you choose changes how prominent those characters appear and the overall finish of your registration.
We currently offer three 4D plate options, making it easy to choose between a cleaner 3mm profile, deeper 6mm characters or our more detailed Retro finish.
4D 3MM Number Plates
Our 4D 3mm number plates feature precision-laser-cut acrylic characters for a clean, raised appearance. At 3mm deep, the solid-black characters provide a noticeable three-dimensional effect without sitting too far from the plate surface.
This option suits vehicle owners looking for a modern 4D number plate with a relatively low-profile finish.
4D 6mm Number Plates
Our 4D 6mm number plates create a stronger raised effect, making the acrylic characters more prominent against the plate.
The additional depth gives the registration a bolder appearance than our 3mm option. If you want your 4D plates to stand out more clearly once fitted to the vehicle, the 6mm style provides that extra definition.
4D Retro Number Plates
Our 4D Retro Number Plates take a different approach to raised-character design. Precision-cut detailing gives the characters a more distinctive finish, combining retro-inspired styling with modern plate manufacturing.
Choose the Retro style if you want something more detailed than our standard 3mm and 6mm 4D number plates.

Which 4D Plates Should I Choose?
The main differences across our 4D range are character depth and finish.
Choose 4D 3mm plates for a cleaner, lower-profile raised appearance. Choose 4D 6mm plates for thicker characters and a more pronounced three-dimensional effect. Our 4D Retro plates are designed for drivers who prefer more detail around the raised characters and a different finish from our standard 4D styles.
Each product has its own dedicated page where you can see the design in more detail and select the available options for your registration.
What Are 4D Number Plates?
4D number plates use individually raised acrylic letters and numbers to create the registration rather than relying solely on characters printed onto the plate surface.
The laser-cut acrylic adds physical depth to the registration, creating the three-dimensional appearance associated with 4D plates. High-quality materials and precision cutting also help create consistent characters with clean, sharp edges.
The amount of depth depends on the style you choose. Our range offers 3mm and 6mm raised characters, alongside our distinctive Retro design.
Are 4D Number Plates Legal in the UK?
Yes, 4D number plates can be road legal in the UK. The use of raised acrylic characters does not automatically make number plates illegal.
For road use, the complete plate must meet the legal requirements applicable to the vehicle. This covers areas such as the prescribed font style, character size and spacing, reflective background and required permanent markings.
Road-legal plates produced under the current British Standard carry the applicable BS AU 145e marking and supplier details. The front plate uses a white reflective background, and the rear plate uses a yellow reflective background.
Road-Legal 4D Plates and Show Plates
If you are buying new number plates for a vehicle used on UK roads, it is the road legality of the complete plate that matters.
Customisation that changes required character spacing, colours, readability or other regulated parts of a registration can make a plate unsuitable for road use. A plate created purely for display or show use should not be treated as a road-legal plate. Our road-legal 4D number plates are produced with the required specifications for legal road use.
Made for Your Registration
Each set of 4D number plates is produced for the registration number you provide. The raised acrylic characters are precision cut before being applied to the plate to create your chosen style and depth.
When ordering road-legal number plates, you will also need to provide the required documentation confirming your identity and your entitlement to use the registration.
As a registered number plate supplier, we need to verify these documents before producing road-legal plates.
